Bullet Boy, Saul Dibb, 2004

  • Family - the relationship between the mother and both brothers differ. she is more protective with curtis whereas with ricky she was more concerned and happy to have him aroung.

  • Relationship developments - with the brothers, curtis looked up to ricky as an idol and gradually began to mimic his actions. the mother figure at first was glad to have ricky back and was dissapointed about not being able to spend time with him, this soon changes when she fears that he is a bad influence on curtis... she is eager to be rid of him.

  • Characterisation - In terms of heroes and vilains i dont see a clear hero in the story. ricky i see as more of an anti hero. despite his constant efforts to change his ways he always seems to get involved in things he shouldnt. if there were to be a hero in the story i would say that curtis was the hero. i think that his presence made ricky less eager to for about crime and wanting to focus more on being a good brother, despite not spending much time with him. 'who bought his trainers? who wiped his nose?', ricky talks about his brotherly duties. I think that wisdom is the clear villain in the story. he was always tempting ricky into crime as ricky felt abliged to help as he is his best friend. wisdom took advantage of this fact.

  • Setting - the flat was depicted as somewhat of a safehaven. the flat seemed very small and closterphobic almost asif it were a protective cradle around the family. this was in contrast to the dangerous outisde world. the home seemed to loose its safety aura with the intusion of the swat officers.
